Tiko Oil Refinery and Margarine Factory

Home > Existing REID Factory Buildings > Food Processing Buildings

This vegetable oil refinery and canning factory was constructed for Tiko. Being built next to Toamasina Port, it is designed to resist 280km/hour winds and saline marine environment. It has floors of reinforced concrete on our composite style decking and anti skid galvanised durbar plate floors. There is galvanised steel mesh floors where through ventilation and drainage is needed. It has stairs as well as hooped ladder access to working platforms. The steel factory has ridge ventilation, louvres and windows.

To add value, Ravalomanana also asked REIDsteel to build a steel framed margarine factory. Originally, it was going to be positioned up-country, where it would have been sheltered from strong winds. However, it was later decided that it should be erected next to the Edible Oil Factory. The building would not have been able to withstand high wind speeds in the case of a cyclone, so REIDsteel doubled the number of purlins and positioned the joists more closely.
